There are people in the pandemic that suffered not from COVID-19 but from cancer. This statement was proven by Lenie J. Ocana, 48 years old housewife that lives in Salawag, Dasmariñas, Cavite. During the two years being in the pandemic, she struggled and survived with her cancer.
The cancer was inherited from their family since their bloodline has a cancer lump in different areas of our body like the breast, back, forehead, etc. Having all of this which they have been through is a lesson for us to live our life peacefully with God's love.
She found that she had cancer when she felt like she had a lump in her chest. She did not realize that it is already cancer.
After hearing the diagnosis from the doctor, Lenie feels down every day, her thoughts, feelings, and everything is scrambled. She felt a sense of loss in her health and the life she had before she learned that she has cancer. She may lose her hope but she still fights during those days.
“I was praying a prayer when I found out that I had cancer. I immediately told my husband and she quickly told me to go to the hospital. I also told my relatives how I was feeling and they were immediately worried and helped me fight back. Especially my son who was shocked at my condition. He was very worried about me,” she stated.
The days she had cancer was hard. She is sad, depressed, anxious, and wondering about what might happen to her. Yet, she remained hopeful despite the hardships of life, especially with his husband who is an OFW.
However, there is also a point in her life when she wants to give up. But, she held her faith in God who tells her not to give up since she has a family waiting for her. She believed that her condition is only a test.
“For me, a bad event or experience a person in his life is just a test. The test comes to test a person’s confidence and courage in himself as well as the endurance of belief in our Lord God. There are many types of trials that can come to us,” she explained.
Lenie also gains strength from the grace of God, her family, and her friends. Every day she prays for her better recovery and successful operation. As she thinks about her son and husband, she tells herself that she can be healed.
For her recovery, she ate healthily. She had balanced nutrition since it has many benefits. Moreover, she also exercised as it helps to prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and colon cancer. It can help treat depression, osteoporosis, and high blood pressure.
Then, several months later, the suffering ended as she healed from her condition. People around her are indeed happy about the good news but Lenie feared that her cancer may come back. Then, she tries to be positive and enjoy the life she has after the successful treatment.
As she is given a second chance to live, she will fulfill her dream to watch her grandson and her family achieve their goals in life. She now wants to live peacefully and happily.
This story is a testament that people really struggled and had different obstacles to overcome during the pandemic.
